The Two Ancient Monotheisms; Contemporary and Ancient comparisons of Zarathustrianism and Atenism

Modern scholars have traced the idea of Monotheism to two possible original traditions Zarathustrianism, the Ancient Persian religion which held that Ahura Mazda was the sole God, and Atenism. Depending on how one dates the two cultures (which can be ambiguous in either case) one or the other is thought to be the first recoded Monotheistic faith.

It seems clear that later Monotheisms such as Judaism Christianity and Islam were influenced by both faiths but the question remains open as to whether one influenced the other at all or whether they developed independently of each other.

Atenism for all intents and purposes was extinct after the Amarna period and Zarathustrianism was heavily suppressed until today it has only perhaps a million adherents and is slowly decaying. Is there a lesson to be learned by Atenism from contemporary Zarathustrianism as to how to survive as a minority faith in the modern world?

Thank you for your time and input.
