Hey folks, my name is Ankhesenamun, I'm a member since June 2009. I live in England, though my dad was from Arizona. I've joined the Akhetaten Fellowship as I am a strong believer in Atenism and would love to see Atenism established as a worldwide religion. Atenism was the original belief system , full of wisdom and light, but has been terribly corrupted by religious leaders who turned it into Christianity, Judaism etc, and the result is now countless wars all over the world, most of them in the name of "religion". The vast majority of people just repeat what they get told by these religious leaders, too afraid to go against the majority, or to be branded a "sinner". I am not afraid to stand up for what I believe in, I believe in the truth that I found in Atenism, and if more people were to discover the eternal truth of Atenism, the world would be a much more peaceful place. Apart from that, it would be great if we could have a Pharaoh again! That's it for now folks, get in touch, and let me know where in the world you are! Ankhesenamun |

My belief in Atenism may seem radical to most. I agree there must be a return of Pharaoh to an Atenist throne. This Pharaoh must be our object of worship. Aten is to be worshipped indirectly through this Atenist Pharaoh, just as Akhenaten was worshipped in the same way. Christians believe in the second coming of Christ who is God and must be worshipped. Why shouldn't we prepare the way for our own second coming of Akhenaten? I would personally suggest that we declare to the world that the second coming of Akhenaten is impending, for only Akhenaten can truly restore Atenism "as a worldwide faith". Without Akhenaten we are nothing. That is my own viewpoint and I wish some input to my radical ideas. Thanks.

I don't like to judge the beliefs of others to begin with. Yes your beliefs may seem radical in the minds of many, like for example the Nicholas Reeves of this world. You know the author of 'Akhenaten: Egypt's False Prophet' and renowned Egyptologist. I wouldn't be surprised if he visits this site time to time to see how the 'heretics are doing'. I remember years back when I corresponded briefly by email with Nicholas Reeves about what he thought about modern Atenism and he admitted he visited my old forum and enjoyed the "lively discussion" as he put it and he respected my beliefs, but was not a believer himself. I respect his skeptisicm about modern Atenism since as we all know religion's in general are false and distorted and many times dangerous. As for your so-called radical beliefs there are some things that ring true. Like the return of Pharaoh to an Atenist throne for example. It's an ideal to hope for but far being realized. Historically Akhenaten was worshipped as God, as were all Pharaohs before and after Him. The only difference was Akhenaten believed in only one God while the other Pharaoh's believed in many. Being a strict monotheist, Akhenaten could only be a earthly manifestation of the One God. As far as the second coming of Akhenaten is concerned that is something that is beyond our power to implement because that is something that God only knows and can make happen. Anyway, we in fact do have a heavenly Pharaoh which is Aten. Modern Atenism should be differentiated from ancient Atenism in that we can dispense with the shackles that Akhenaten was bound to, like for example Pharaoh worship which was traditional, although I wouldn't rule it out if it pleases the modern Atenist mind. Another point is, we know that God is universal and that He created the Universe, so He cannot be just the star in our planetary solar system. Ancient Egyptians could not grasp such a concept and so the worship of Re as Sole God by Akhenaten was just His way of weaninging the ignorant masses of His time from the old traditional religious concepts and motifs. That being said, Re our Sun is God's instrument to nourish our world with life. Nevertheless, I encourage modern Atenists to believe and practice Atenism in their own way that pleases them and I respect all your beliefs. |

There is no doubt that we need a Pharaoh again, though Pharaoh was never really worshipped as a God; Pharaoh has however always been responsible for keeping the eternal world order, Maat, and the people have always looked up to Pharaoh for guidance. Pharaoh has always been loved by His people - with very few exceptions - but the claim by modern egyptologists that the people worshipped Pharaoh as a God is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the ancient culture. - The belief in a "second coming" is based on Christianity and Judaism - whereby for Jews it would of course be the "first coming" - and should not really be part of Atenism. We should all have strong faith in the Aten and we do not need a "middleman" for that. Akhenaten tought us the correct way and I don't think He would want us to worship Him as a God. As to the Ancients worshipping many gods, that also is not as straightforward as it seems. Educated people in Ancient Egypt believed in only one God, but represented that one God in many different incarnations. To the common people that seemed like many different gods, and the highly paid priesthood kept commoners in that belief so as not to weaken their power. Under Akhenaten of course that elite of priests got overturned, which is the sole reason for the priests turning against Akhenaten and the entire Royal family. Under Pharaoh Tutankhamun the priests forced a return to the old religion - in order to regain their power. The Royal family however carried on - secretly - with Atenism during the reign of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Most Pharaohs have been very wise men, and if we were to have a Pharaoh again - and I certainly hope so - we would need that again, someone who has wisdom and a strong personality, someone who we can look up to for guidance. |
