I was just wandering, how does Atenism affect the lives of people here day to day? Are there prayers? How do you relate to Aten?

I think it is all a matter of preference to the individual. Atenism is a natural religion, similar in many ways to Deism. Aten creates the world and everything in it. Aten has a Divine plan from the beginning. Everything that happens is part of His Divine plan. In reality there is no such thing as good and evil. Good and evil depends on one's point of view. We are not born into sin, like the Christians believe. We don't pray to Aten asking for things which doesn't make any sense since Aten is all knowing, and as such already knows our needs even before we ask. So praying for things is fruitless to a God who already knows what one will pray for. Instead of prayer we PRAISE Aten and give thanks for all the good things in life. We praise Aten for His perfect Divine plan. Aten created the world with His Divine plan in mind and sets that Divine plan into motion. Good cannot exist without Evil just as light cannot exist without darkness. In the end I believe Aten's Divine plan will be revealed to humanity in all of it's glory and the evils that exist or that we perceive to exist will be replaced with the eventual good which Atenism will bring to the world. We plan and our plan is in harmony with Aten's Divine Plan as we understand it. Atenism as a one world rational religion under a Atenist world government. At least this is my personal belief and does not necessarily reflect on other Atenist believers.

I don't pray to the Sun I praise Him. Just like Atenist Zealot was saying, there is no point in praying for things if God already knows what you want before you pray for it; a big waste of time. I also believe in God's divine plan; that when the Universe was created a divine plan was set into motion. Until we understand God's divine plan and live in harmony with it; the world will always be filled with all forms of evil. We must embrace God's will. Atenism is part of God's will. Read Akhenaten's hymn to Aten and you get a feel of what that divine plan is.

The Hymn to Aten contains so many precious gems of truths and shows us a way of life in our worship and praise of the One God Aten.
Aten is One and His Son, Akhnaten, is our Teacher. Aten, you are in my heart. Temple of Aten

I pray every day, as prayer has a very important purpose: it helps me to keep my "lines of communication" open, lets me know that Aten is there, as well as a couple of other things (praising him being one of them).

I am working on a daily ritual. I started it some time ago, but never finished it. Like anything I do, it isn't strictly reconstructionist. I don't want to recreate something exactly as it was, I want to create something that keeps the original message while putting that message in a package that people can understand.

Just an added thought, and something I am working on myself, but keeping a shrine in your home is a rather good idea. It serves as a focal point for prayer, worship, and praise.

I was just wondering, does anyone have any of the files from the old Atenism Yahoo Group? I had mine saved, but my computer is flatly refusing to read the CDR right now (it did read it before, and it is very frustrating). I had a good portion of my Atenism stuff on there, and I'm being forced to start from scratch. (Although I fresh point of view is a good thing.)

Prayer is more than asking the Divine for something, as He/She/It already knows what we need and want. Too many people think prayer is simply asking for something, but have missed the point. Prayer is about opening a connection with the Divine and helping to keep it open.

Considering the daily practice of Atenist spirituality, I came up with these suggestions (with the help of a good book with a heavy christian slant, Monk Habits for Everyday People):

1. Pray once or twice a day.
2. Read about Atenism and mediate on Ma'at at least once a day.
3. Practice times of silence. (This does not require total silence, as the goal is to learn how to listen.)
4. Remember that every moment of our lives is lived in the presence of Aten.
5. Do a partial or full fast at least once a week. (The Christians Daniel Fast is a good idea.)
6. Attend a religious service, if possible.
7. Care for those you live with, work with, and worship with.
8. Refrain from judging others.
9. Be consistently involved with an Atenist temple and any programs that interest you, if possible. (An alternative is to be active with a local group, such as the UU's if a local Atenist group is not available, or to be active with an online Atenist group.)
10. Treat all physical objects in your environment with care and reverence.
11. Be faithful/stable in your family, employment, and religious responsibilities.
12. Serve others with consistent care and patience.

I was thinking of some prayer or phrase to say upon waking and I came upon something that I really liked, so i changed it a little and will start using it in the near future upon waking:

Gracious Aten, I join with you each day so that my body and soul may be made new again by your light.
