Cleansing Remove your shoes. Wash your hands, face, and mouth. Light the candles. O Aten, who possesses my flesh and spirit, Let me not decay or know corruption, Sovereign of all creation, who gives birth to all life and is the Lord of Life. I am restored. Bow before your shrine and anoint your forehead with Holy Oil. Light the incense and place it in a censer. Hymn Ring a chime or hand-held bell and perform the call to “awaken the god” in the form of a hymn. If you wish to use music, begin playing it at this time. Alternately, you can start the music after the hymn is finished. Homage to you, Aten, great glorious being; Master of all that exists, creator of what shall be, Foremost of all being. O God of Life, Lord of Love: All people live when you shine, Those who follow you sing your praises. You rule all the universe, You go forth over Heaven and Earth each day, You receive the opening of our hearts in your shines. You stride over the heavens in peace, Your enemies fall before you. May you be at peace with me, May I advance upon this Earth and see your beauty. Introduction Homage to you Aten, Who is exalted this day, Who is given sovereignty in this shrine. Receive on your table of offerings What is given by one who honors you. And may dominion be given you, That you may be mighty in your transformations in the Holy Places. The offerings are presented to the alter and censed. The Offering I offer pure things, giving: _________. The offering tray is sprinkled with water. Receive at this hour these goods of offering And as you receive life, may you give life, And as you make manifestations in your shrine, May all men and women and beings of the Earth Give honor to your name. Ring the bell or chime. Declaration of Innocence Hear me Aten, I have not committed evil Hear me Aten, I have not robbed. Hear me Aten, I have not done wrong in the place of what is right. Hear me Aten, I have not committed thefts. Hear me Aten, I have not slain men or women. Hear me Aten, I have not defrauded. Hear me Aten, I have not profaned sacred property. Hear me Aten, I have not spoken falsehood. Hear me Aten, I have not cursed God or man. Hear me Aten, I have not stolen food. Hear me Aten, I have not uttered slanders. Hear me Aten, I have not betrayed my heart. Hear me Aten, I have not trespassed. Hear me Aten, I have not killed animals. Hear me Aten, I have not destroyed lands. Hear me Aten, I have not revealed secrets. Hear me Aten, I have not spoken unwisely. Hear me Aten, I have not been angry without cause. Hear me Aten, I have not been lustful. Hear me Aten, I have not defiled myself. Hear me Aten, I have not been with one who is pledged to another. Hear me Aten, I terrorized no one. Hear me Aten, I have not spoken harshly. Behold (your name here) true of voice, Anointed with sublime oil; Performing Ma’at is breath in my nostrils. Presentation of Ma’at Homage to you, Aten who dwells in truth Without evil in you We feed upon truth, we live in truth. Homage to you, Lord of Truth, He to whom all creation extends their arms: I am pure, I have committed no faults, I have not erred, I have not done evil, nor have I borne false witness, I come forward to make a declaration of truth. I present truth, I present my name. The name is held before a symbol of Aten and a symbol of Ma’at. Ma’at is come, that it may be with me. Ma’at is in every place of mine, that I may rest upon it. Ma’at is here before me, and I am given to it. Reversion of the Offering Want does not come from me, I am satisfied by the bread of Aten which I have eaten. I assume my strength. I will not be thirsty. I will not be hungry. It is Aten who expels my thirst and my hunger. The offering is eaten or taken to the dinning place if it is a full meal. If it is floral in nature then it remains on the alter until nightfall. If you do not keep a permanent shrine, then close the shrine and put the altar and ritual items away. |

I'm sorry if this rite seemed a bit on the long side, but it couldn't be helped. This rite is meant as a pledge of maintain and uphold truth and order, as a covenant between the individual and Aten. It isn't necessary, except for a priest and that would be a ritual performed by multiple people instead of just on your own. I would suggest performing it once a year, which is what I plan to do as soon as I possibly can. As a side note, the Declarations are meant as guidelines, so that we may live in harmony with Aten and with each other. They are meant to cause us to pause for some reflection and remind us what decisions we should ideally make in life. Also, I did combine my own creativity with outher sources. As such I cannot claim to have be the only author or to have been without help (besides Aten's inspiration, of course). Edited by Astennu, Feb 16 2009, 08:15 PM.

I've done the instructions and ritual in this post several times over the last few months, and really enjoy it.
